and a jagboner
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
if only i had more $$$. I want to stay under $8k. There are no manual xkr’s for sale in the country for that price. Meanwhile I drool over this:

i didn’t even know they made a manual xkr.
maybe just look into an xk8 manual? the manual itself may give you the feel you want without even having to get into an “R.”
EDIT: oh wait, xK or xJ?

Very cool Jag!

Pretty sure there are no manual XKRs at all. Also I don’t know why but I’ve thinking about the X Type in much more postivie light as of late. Either way XJRs especially in black look so menacing.

S-Type R?

The didn’t make any XK’s with a manual transmission IIRC. Also, I would love an XJR or Portfolio/Super V8, but the automatic transmissions scare me.

xj8? the kx is the sports car. They may not have made a manual, which would explain the lack of cars for sale with one I guess. I found this one:
http://southcoast.craigslist.org/cto/5213429297…
but sadly it does not have an engine that works

there is a Jag for sale with an engine with no compression in 2 cylenders. What do you think would be the repair cost and what would be involved in getting a manual in there?

No compression? Wouldn’t that mean wither piston rings are bad (blow-by) or you need a head job (valves, valve seats, etc.)? It would cost less to pull the motor out and put a newer one in. Otherwise you need to pull the heads, send them to the shop for probably $750 worth of machine work and re-install them, or pull the block, get it bored over, get new pistons/rings, etc. It would be in your best interest to just get one with good compression or to buy that one for cheap and put a salvage engine in it.
I can imagine a transmission swap might cost you $1,000-$3,000 for whatever transmission you want, and then probably $1,000-$2,000 for a shop to install it.

if the XJ never came with a manual trans would it be possible to do that or an i out of my mind? The car i saw was for sale for $1200

The Driven Man makes kits from what I can tell, but those run $5,000 for the transmission and retrofit hardware. I’ve read that the V12 XJS cars are the best with a retrofitted manual transmission. The XJ8 used a ZF transmission and so did the BMW E39, which was also offered with a Getrag 420G transmission, which might be a possible swap candidate, and those go for around $800 or so used. I think your big problem is going to be getting the engine management system to play nice with your manual transmission. Check on some Jaguar forums - I’m sure someone has done it before. One company that was swapping Tremecs into XK8s was charging around $10,000 without the transmission!

right...
XJ8 is the 4 door sedan.
XK8 is the GT coupe.
its just not clear which youre interested in because in your words you say XK, but the photo is an XJ.
i’m not sure there was a manual available on either car. where is that 4id7r guy (or whatever his name is) with those lists of everything available?

We can’t both be looking at Jags right now! Also, I’d say stay auto on a Jag, it just seems more natural, or something.
